Greetz from San Francisco
I’m writing from my new home in San Francisco! Since traveling across the country with my wonderful parents (New Jersey to Denver, then north to 80, then straight shot west to San Francisco, in five days) I’ve settled into an apartment with great roommates. My small network of friends has graciously helped me get acquainted with this fun city.

My graduate program at SFAI doesn’t begin until August 31, so the summer is my oyster. I’ve already seen The Prodigy at The Warfield, which was a techno blast. There’s Gay Pride in Los Angeles next weekend, and then Gay Pride in San Francisco at the end of the month, both of which I plan to attend.
My senses seem to be on a curious overload. I haven’t listened to my iPod in weeks. It’s as if I’m too interested in hearing the new sounds around me, that I don’t want to be distracted by Kelly Clarkson right now. There are pride flags Everywhere. I’ve met more Asian-Americans in a day than in my whole life. The fruit is fresh. The days are warm but the nights are cold. It’s Fall Fashion everyday (the layered look, ya know?). There are beautiful tropical flowers growing in my backyard.
I always thought it was a bit corny for an artist to travel to a foreign land and suddenly become so inspired by the things around him, that he embarks on a new body of artwork, leaving his old artwork behind. I may be rethinking that idea a bit. I’m interested to see how much gayer my work gets. I’m not avoiding the inspiration, but I know where my core interests lie and I don’t want to drop that simply because I’ve physically relocated. With a huge change in living lifestyle, network, and available resources from Brooklyn to San Francisco, I’m as excited as you are to see what happens with my artwork!
If you happen to be in Venice this weekend, be sure to check out the grand opening of the 2009 Venice Biennale on Sunday! And send me some pics!
