Glossary of Abbreviations
BFA – The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is the undergraduate educational degree in the visual and performing arts.
CMY – I refer to my four years of undergraduate study in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as the Carnegie Mellon Years.
ECA – The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State is in charge of selecting the American artist who will represent the US at the Venice Biennale.
FACIE – The Federal Advisory Committee on International Exhibitions recommends artists to ECA.
ITTET – Coined by blogger BikeSnobNYC, it is simply an abbreviation of the ever-present saying: In These Trying Economic Times.
KH – The collaborative art duo between me and Pete Hickok known as Kitsch House.
MFA – The Master of Fine Arts degree is the terminal educational degree in the visual and performing arts.
NEA – In America, the government gives us creative types some money once in a while through the private agency known as the National Endowment for the Arts.
SFAI – I received my MFA from San Francisco Art Institute, with a concentration in New Genres. Officially, ‘new genres’ is media recognized after photography, including digital photography, film, video, installation, and performance. Unofficially, it’s getting naked once in a while.
